2.196 kmWhen Ducati Polska invited me to participate in the Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally 60,000 km test, I knew it would be an exciting experience. I was the owner of the previous version, the Multistrada 1200S V2 from 2016, and I had many great journeys with that motorcycle. A solo trip to Kazakhstan, or above the Arctic Circle to Murmansk. Over two years, I covered more than 25,000 km with the Multistrada, so I know almost everything about that bike. I was very curious to compare the V2 version with the new V4. My first look at the beautiful Multistrada brought back emotions from years past. I couldn’t wait to hit the road together. That’s why I spontaneously decided to go camping in the Masuria region in the middle of the week. A quick packing session after work, and by 5:00 PM, I was already on the road from Warsaw heading north. The Ducati handled the city traffic jams very well. Riding Multistrada, you really don’t feel the higher speeds – on a route estimated by Google to take 3 hours, I reached the Grunwald area in less than 2 hours. In such a short time, I went from the urban hustle to kayaking, enjoying a beautiful sunset. I woke up at sunrise and made it to work by 8 AM. The express trip to Masuria recharged my batteries and only made me crave the next ride. Due to my origin – the Izera Foothills – I love mountains and enjoy riding a motorcycle on winding mountain roads. For many, the ride from Mazovia to any mountain range is a boring necessity. However, I find great pleasure in covering long distances. The Multistrada performed excellently on expressways. The active cruise control is an ideal solution for such transit sections. Not even a massive downpour stopped me, and I reached the Tatra Mountains as planned. Both the Polish and Slovak winding roads showcased the full spectrum of the Multistrada’s capabilities. The endless number of curves confirmed that this motorcycle is not only great for straight transit roads but is also made for tackling tight and twisty turns. The route led through the entire High Tatras, revealing the beauty of these majestic mountains.
I deliberately planned my return for late in the evening to test the ride under nighttime conditions. Another rain front only further reduced visibility – despite the less than favorable road conditions, the LED headlights provided excellent visibility. In this way, I managed to cover 1,200 km in one day.
The penultimate stage of my trip was the “Motobanda” motorcycle event in Poznań. The Multistrada attracted a lot of attention there, which it fully deserves.
On the return to Łódź, where I handed over the motorcycle to the next test participant, I had the chance to test the Multistrada in light enduro conditions. The route to Góra Lotnika led through forest paths, often sandy. Despite its size, the Multistrada handled this terrain very smoothly. The ENDURO mode fully met this challenge.
I hope the next participants will enjoy riding the Multistrada as much as I did.
Whether I was riding on the highway, tackling mountain curves, or sandy forest paths, riding this motorcycle brought me true joy. The biggest surprise for me is the incredible engine dynamics combined with a perfectly functioning quickshifter.
What positively surprised me:
– The engine, compared to the V2, runs more smoothly. The Italians did their homework and eliminated the jerking that occurred in the previous version.
– The perfectly working quickshifter and active cruise control (ACC), which provides a pleasant rest on long routes.
– The blind-spot detection (BSD) indicator is a pleasant surprise.
– Comfortable riding position (though I must mention that during a single trip of over 1,000 km, the seat started to feel slightly hard).
– The heated seat for the passenger with individual control.
– During heavy rain, the DTC and DWC systems worked great, providing a sense of safety and comfort while riding.
– The V4 is made for riding with a passenger; at times, I felt it was more stable at higher speeds with someone on the back.
– Stable riding with panniers at high speeds and in the city.
– Waterproof phone compartment.
– Dynamic riding is the natural environment for the Multistrada, making daily trips of 1,000 km a pleasure.
– The LED lighting worked well at night during rain and provided adequate visibility.
– The sport/enduro mode changes are optimally configured. Transitioning from asphalt to forest or sandy roads results in perfectly adjusted parameters, giving a better sense of control and more fun while riding.
– A surprise is the 30-liter fuel tank and low fuel consumption on the road at constant speeds up to 130 km/h.
– Acceleration in every gear is very dynamic.
– Greater engine flexibility compared to the previous version.
– Very good brakes.
