4980 kmAfter a short reflection – about 20 minutes – I took the decision. Every year my brother and I go for a traditional autumn trip, always at the end of October, with our Ducati bikes (he owns a Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak). This year, I had the opportunity to test the Ducati V4 Rally for a week, so we decided to head to Athens. Our goal: To reach the Acropolis!
DAY 1
We reached the Ducati Dealer in Salzburg to collect the bike. There, I had the first impressions of the V4 Rally: a powerful motorcycle. It was also equipped with suitcase set. The weather was perfect for a ride over the Alps.
DAY 2
At 6.00am, I discussed with my brother about we route we would take, direction to the south and then… the journey started! We have a few simple rules: no motorway and no expressways! Unfortunately, it rained half of the day. We arrived at the Dalmatian Riviera in the evening. The Rally went perfectly!
DAY 3
We went from Dalmatia further to Montenegro, and then to Albania! The weather was perfect again: around 20°. Super! I like the Rally more and more because I feel its high sitting position very comfortable for the long journeys.
DAY 4
Finally, from Albania, we went to Greece! The journey towards Patras was not so curvy and, therefore, very strenuous, but the good sitting position and the good wind protection made it quite pleasant. From there we ride towards Athens through winding mountain roads. I must say that the Rally mastered them very well. Finally in Athens!
DAY 5
After a little tour in Athens, we headed home. We drove from the Northern border of Athens back to the mountains and crossed Greece from the East to the West and from the West to the East. That day we also drove a few kilometers on gravel roads, where I rode well even on the standing position, changing the riding mode from Sport to Enduro. Perfect!
DAY 6
6:30am. Departure from Amfilochia towards Meteora, a stunning monastery complex in the Northern of Greece, as always, through beautiful roads and landscapes. We went through the North of Macedonia to Kosovo. I have to mention also that the big tank is great for travelling!
DAY 7
7:00am Departure to Serbia. 0°, fog an nettle rain! I used all the heating options and it was really pleasant while riding. The seat heating has been fundamental. We were not allowed to enter Serbia, because it is impossible to come from Kosovo without a special kind of visa, so we had to go 100 km back and over Montenegro. In the area of the Tara River Gorge, we continued towards Sarajevo. We came to Bosnia via gravel roads and narrow broken roads. The Rally is perfect for this ground and I was enthusiastic about this bike.
DAY 8
We set the navigation system back home through the fastest route that was about 700Km. We travelled across the Eastern part of Bosnia to Croatia, Slovenia and arrived to Austria at 9.30pm.
We rode 4,980 km at an average speed of 80 km/h.
You can really do anything with the Multistrada V4 Rally, it is a perfect travel motorbike!
