We spent the first day to reach Palermo, where I would pick up the bike that would accompany me on this beautiful experience. With me, I had Daniel, a good friend from Rome. I took the Multistrada V4 Rally in Palermo and, since it was late, we spent the night there.
Day 2
We woke up early in the morning and we left for this new adventure. After taking the highway, we arrived in Castellammare del Golfo, then we reached Scopello, a small village with few inhabitants. We have gone there to taste the “cunzato bread”, a typical food there, but unfortunately all the shops were closed. From there we went to Marsala to see the salt pans, which were closed for construction. To get there, we took a nice off-road route, where the bike performed very well. Then we headed to Erice. It started raining and, as we got higher, and the temperature dropped. We did not give up, however, and climbed to the top. Once we got off, we decided to visit the wonderful San Vito Lo Capo, before returning to Palermo. The day ended under the universal deluge.
Day 3
First stop of the day: Cefalù. We walked in the beautiful village and, after a little relaxing in the sun, we rode to Cesaró. Then we decided to continue towards Catania. On the way, we crossed a mountainous area where the temperature dropped to -2°. Arrived in Catania, we were hosted by a friend of ours.
Day 4
Due to a weather alert, we avoided getting back on the bike. It could have been too dangerous.
Day 5
At 7:30am we left Catania because we wanted to recover the lost day. Firstly, we reached Ortigia and then the Isola delle Correnti (the southernmost point of Sicily). After crossing several dirt roads, we arrived in Caltagirone. We didn’t stay long because our goal was to visit the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento. We went back to Palermo to meet our friends and finally we headed to Messina.
Day 6
On the sixth day, we woke up early because we wanted to reach Taormina. We visited the town by bike and then we headed the port of Giardini Naxos, one of the main attractions of the place. We set the navigator to Palermo, but we had a small misadventure: we found ourselves in reserve and, with great difficulty, we reached the first service area after 200 km with the bike that marked 0 km of autonomy. We were saved by a miracle. After arriving in Palermo, we reset the navigator for Messina.
Day 7
On the seventh day, we left with more calm towards Aci Trezza, a small paradise on earth where the temperature was 20°. From there, we went down to Catania, where we were hosted by a friend for the night.
Day 8
Last day of travel. We boarded the ferry to reach Calabria and drove to Lamezia Terme, where I had to return the bike.
For sure, Aci Trezza. From the waterfront we could admire the famous faraglioni, protagonists in classical literature. In two words: majestic and wonderful.
This has been one of the most exciting experiences of all my life. I would like to thank the Ducati team for allowing me to embark on this fantastic adventure together with my friend Daniel. It will remain forever in my most precious memories.
