2048 kmI answer a call from an unknown number, and a friendly voice on the other end makes my heart race…: “Good morning, Mr. Bartosz, I am calling from Ducati Poland….” Thoughts swirl around, and after a moment, motorcycle dreams become reality. Now, I just need to secure an additional week of vacation, and I can be one of the five lucky Polish participants in the “”Multistrada 60,000 km European Tour””.
My proposed route of approximately 2000 km included visiting castles and palaces in Lower and Upper Silesia, as well as the Opole region. Then, a ride through the picturesque areas of the Podbeskidzie, the Sadecki Beskid, and reaching the Bieszczady Mountains. With Solina and the Bieszczady Loop as the main attractions. Afterwards, returning via Zakopane and returning the motorcycle in Katowice. Overnight stays only in a tent and camping in wild locations.
Mr. Maciej from Ducati Liberty Motors Wrocław, in a professional and friendly atmosphere, gave me detailed. Finally, a handshake, and I can start!
The first night was planned near the Książ Castle, one of the largest Polish castles, with a beautiful surrounding park and a renowned horse stud farm. The motorcycle parked next to the tent brings a smile to my face and positive emotions. I can’t wait for the next ride.
Leaving Wałbrzych, I head towards Bolków Castle and Chojnik, then Łomnica Palace and Kliczków Castle. I stop for savoring the charm of Jelenia Góra’s old town. It’s one of my favorite places on the map of Lower Silesia. I wind through more kilometers of asphalt ribbon between proud mountains, picturesque valleys, green forests, and charming Silesian foothills.
At the end of the day, I check in near the famous railway viaduct in Bolesławiec and head to my accommodation. Grodziec Castle is my greatest discovery on this trip. Situated on a hill over an extinct volcano, it is one of the best-preserved Gothic-Renaissance castles in Poland. The picturesque location, the long steep approach through the forest, and the sprawling wooded outer castle enhance the feeling of extraordinary uniqueness.
Day three involves traveling along scenic roads to Czocha Castle, visiting the gem that is Moszna Castle (365 rooms, 99 towers, and a 200-hectare park make a striking impression), lunch in Lwówek Śląski, and visiting castles in Racibórz and Cieszyn.
The next day starts with a ride to the beautiful Sułkowski Castle in Bielsko-Biała, and then through the picturesque Przełęcz Przegibek, heading towards Góra Żar. Then, the Tresna Dam and I climb the serpentine Road No. 28 to Sucha Beskidzka, passing Maków Podhalański, a brief stop in Jordanów, and turning right to reach Czorsztyn Lake and the castles in Niedzica and Czorsztyn. A reward awaits: breathtaking mountain views, winding roads, and lunch by the reservoir with a wonderful panorama of both castles.
In the further part of the journey, I head towards the Bieszczady Sea, as the Solina Dam on the San River is called. I arrive there slowly, enjoying the views and the tranquility of these areas. My goal is a loose interpretation of the Bieszczady Loop. I reach Wetlina, Ustrzyki Górne, Stuposiany, and finally Ustrzyki Dolne. I stop repeatedly to admire the views, and there is much to see: a mountain clearing, a meandering river, beautiful passes.
The next day, I head towards Zakopane. I wander around the city visiting familiar places, eventually parking near Krupówki, having lunch, and starting a ride along picturesque roads through Witów, Chochołów, Czarny Dunajec, Jabłonka, and both Zubrzyce towards Zawoja. A brief stop under Babia Góra at Przełęcz Krowiarki and in Zawoja, I turn towards Sucha Beskidzka, climbing Przełęcz Przysłop. The road is freshly renovated, and the ride is extremely enjoyable.
After covering 2040 km, I check in at the Ducati Eurorider showroom in Katowice. The staff, smiling, offer coffee and ask about my impressions with curiosity. I already know that I will likely take advantage of the opportunity to test ride other Ducati models. There is something captivating about this brand!
On the fourth day of my trip, I caught myself losing track of time. This “freedom from time” is what I love most about motorcycle trips and travel in general. Additionally, the sense of freedom provided by the motorcycle, tent, and wild camping is unparalleled.
The Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally, born in Borgo Panigale, is appealing! I often heard flattering comments about its appearance and its character. The Multistrada entices and lures with its design and finely crafted details. The brushed aluminum fuel tank, machined handlebar mounts, cast mirror arms, and spatial rear swingarm are impressive. The touring character of the V4 Rally is complemented by very practical, well-fitting panniers (side and central). Another advantage is the very effective quickshifter. Proper throttle operation, optimal revs, and the Multistrada’s gearbox works like an automatic. Really good job! I am used to large, even larger motorcycles, so the Multistrada V4 Rally seems to be the perfect size for my 180 cm. The riding position is very comfortable, even when standing. A significant plus is the adjustable height of the front screen. This operation can easily be done while riding using only one hand, which is not always the case with other motorcycles. The wind protection is also more than good; even at high speeds, there are no unpleasant turbulence or significant noise increase. Another positive aspect is the very readable display. Despite the strong September sun, relatively low on the horizon, I never had a situation where the visibility of the panel was insufficient. It’s also worth mentioning the very intuitive handling of the menu, settings, and activation of safety systems. Remember, we’re talking about a very well-equipped motorcycle with a plethora of technological innovations. An interesting feature, known from trucks or high-capacity engines, is the ability to deactivate two cylinders to reduce fuel consumption. A great convenience is also the ability to quickly and temporarily lower the suspension during maneuvering in difficult terrain. This is a very helpful feature, especially for shorter riders with a loaded motorcycle.
Even during very fast rides, the motorcycle handles exceptionally well. The panniers, especially the central one, do not affect the motorcycle’s handling in any way. There is no weaving or handlebar vibrations. The motorcycle gives a sense of full control, and the active suspension, especially in Touring and Sport modes, works perfectly. An additional topic is the sportiness of the V4, after exceeding 6500 rpm. The sensation is amazing, and the sound of the high-revving engine remains memorable for a long time!
Having completed many motorcycle trips (the longest being over eight thousand kilometers), I can say that the Multistrada V4 Rally is fully suited for travel. This wonderful motorcycle offers even more than you expect. I would choose it without hesitation.
